Figuring out how to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago can be overwhelming. After the dyeing of the river and the parades, there are so many special events and festivities how do you know which to choose?

The last thing you want is to end up at a boring party when you know there are epic events happening right around the corner.. Here are some of the best bars celebrating St. Patrick’s Day Chicago.

While Guinness is great, why limit yourself to just one type of beer? Howell’s & Hood has over 300 beers, ciders, and wines on tap, and this St. Patrick’s Day they’re throwing an epic party on their patio. They open at 8:30 a.m. and festivities include bag pipers, a photo booth, a DJ, and specialty drinks.

Timothy O’Tooles is celebrating not just one or two days but ten. It’s their 25th year so they’ve got giveaways and a special menu by Chef Corey Grupe. On Wednesday night you can get your Guinness glass engraved. The day of the parade Joe the Leprechaun will entertain in the bar. There will be green soda chugging classes for both men and women, and the Shannon Rovers bag pipers will perform. Joe and the bagpipers will be back on St. Patrick’s Day, and there are other specials leading up to the big day.

Fado Irish Pub is packed to the rafters with revelers on St. Patrick’s Day. Get there early because the doors open at 9 a.m. and there’s no cover until noon. They’ll have live Irish music all day and have some of the best Irish fare in the city. The Shannon Rovers bagpipers will most likely make an appearance, and you’ll get to practice your Irish brogue with the bartenders.

If you have to work on St. Patrick’s Day, you can still feel the luck o’ the Irish at Mahoney’s Saturday celebration. Start the day with a Mornin Food and Drink package from 8 a.m. to noon and continue the day drinking with a full lineup of live music on the street.
