Top 4 Taco Spots in Downtown Chicago

There are few foods that are as universally loved as the taco. The handheld wonder elicits fans of every culinary persuasion, from pescetarian to vegetarian to full-on carnivore. Chicagoans take their tacos pretty seriously, so finding a bad version is pretty hard to do.

Still, some are better than others, and we’ve found the best tacos in downtown Chicago.

Cruz Blanca

Rick Bayless added another feather to his restaurateur cap with his West Loop Cruz Blanca. Both a brewery and a taqueria, you can get some tasty craft beers to go with your smoke alley tacos. Meat choices include Oaxacan chorizo and garlic chicken breast, and they’re served with grilled güero chiles and knob onions on heirloom corn tortillas. Stop in on Saturday and Sunday and you can start your day (or afternoon) with breakfast tacos.

Seoul Taco

You might not expect a great Korean taco to originate out of St. Louis, but that’s exactly the case with Seoul Taco. Tortillas are filled with your choice of bulgogi beef, soy-marinated chicken, spicy pork, or tofu, and then topped with Korean salad mix, green onion, Seoul Sauce, crushed sesame seeds and served with a wedge of lime. You can add extra meat, and if you’re really hungry, double the meat (or tofu).

Tallboy Taco

At Tallboy Taco, located within Nacional 27, salsa doesn’t just go on your taco. The Nuevo Latino cuisine standby offers salsa dancing every Friday and Saturday night. Before you sizzle and shake, grab some of those Al Pastor tacos with pineapple and pork, or a cowboy 12-hour smoked brisket taco. If you’re there on Taco Tuesday, sangria’s just $5.
