Halloween Events in the Loop

Just like St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween in Chicago is more than just a one-day celebration. The entire city breaks out the orange and black during the month of October, all leading up to that costumed celebration at the end.

Downtown Chicago is one of the best places to be for the festivities, and we’ve found the best Halloween events in the Loop.

Palmer House Hilton and For the Love of Chocolate start things with an early Halloween bash on October 7. “Nobody Sleeps: A Monsters’ Ball!” will keep you up all night with tricks including a zombie circus, vampire burlesque, and voodoo apparitions. 20E at the Talbott Hotel, Bin 36, Calihan Catering, Candy Dynamics, and Dessert Concepts, to name a few, are bringing the treats, and there will be plenty of “spirits” to keep the party flowing.

The streets become Halloween central to Arts in the Dark. This parade kicks off at 6 p.m. on October 21 with live music, giant puppets, and unique floats. You’ll want to get there early, not only so you can get a good spot, but also because the Chicago Blackhawks will be hosting a pre-parade celebration. The parade itself will feature performers from The Actor’s Gymnasium and afterward there will be a “house” party at the Bean.

Even Lyric Opera gets into the festivities with a Halloween Masquerade on October 27. Guests come adorned in their most extravagant costumes, ready to indulge in an open bar, hors-d’oeuvres, and dancing. There’s a reason the costumes are so elaborate; the obligatory contest is judged by the drag group SADHAUS.

If you’re looking for a family-friendly party, the Chicago Park District is hosting a Halloween Dance at Maggie Daley Park, also on October 27. Bring your preschooler and refreshments and games will be provided. On Saturday you can take the kiddies to the Chicago Women’s Park and Gardens for Granny Smith’s Fraidy Cat Fun, an event with lots of apple-themed games and treats.

These are just a few of the ways Chicago celebrates Halloween. For more spooky fun in the Loop, follow us on Twitter and Facebook for more fun this October!
