Spooky Celebrations for Halloween in Chicago

Halloween in Chicago is huge. It’s not quite St. Patrick’s Day huge, but it’s up there. There seems to be a party every weekend in October, and there are celebrations everywhere. The city is filled with so many goblins, ghosts, and ghouls that it’s easy to “scare” up a good time.

Here are just a few of the ways you can celebrate Halloween in Chicago.

Haunted Halloween Ball

If you’re looking for the perfect place to celebrate Halloween, why not hang out at one of the most haunted houses in the world. The Congress Plaza Hotel in the South Loop is hosting the Haunted Halloween Ball the Saturday before the holiday. This is the largest costume ball in Chicago with a $2,000 cash prize. Vampire bellmen greet you as you enter the lush ballroom, and your drinks will be served by zombie cocktail servers. Dress up in the most bizarre, outrageous, or risque costume you can think of for this annual soiree.

Trapped in a Room with a Zombie

If you like being scared, grab some friends and get Trapped in a Room with a Zombie. It’s an escape game in the Loop’s Fine Arts Building, and you and up to eleven others will share a room with a zombie who’s chained to the wall. Every five minutes a buzzer sounds and the creature’s chain becomes a little longer, and it’s up to you to escape the room or be eaten alive.

Arts in the Dark

Chicago loves a parade, and Arts in the Dark is one of the most epic sashays down the streets you can imagine. The procession kicks off on October 20th at 6pm. Expect to see unique floats, spectacle puppets and creative performances from world-renowned institutions that call Chicago home.  After the procession, head to Cloud Gate for an immersive Halloween experience with live DJs, sideshow characters, stilt walkers and performance artists. Maggie Daley Park gets in on the fun, too, with a screening of Beetlejuice, mini-golf, and spooky games with prizes.

Halloween Day Crawl

Start your Halloween festivities early with the Saturday afternoon Halloween Day Crawl. The streets of River North will be overrun with costumed creatures during this October 27th adult trick or treat. Hit up multiple bars including some of the hottest spots in the neighborhood, like Bar Louie, El Hefe, Hubbard Inn, Joy District, Moe’s Cantina, Old Crow, Point & Feather, and Rockit. Tickets include a brunch buffet, gift cards to use on the crawl, costume contests, giveaways, and a whole lot of fun.
