Don’t Miss the Magic of the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival

One of Chicago’s shining attractions is actually a whole street. Michigan Avenue from the Chicago River until it ends at Lake Shore Drive is one of the premier shopping districts in the world. It truly comes to life during the holidays, however, when it flips the switch on the celebrations.

Here’s what you need to know about the BMO Harris Bank Magnificent Mile Lights Festival.

The festival begins the Friday before Thanksgiving with an evening market on Pioneer Plaza. Located next to the historic Tribune Tower, Lights Festival Lane features family-friendly activities and booths, as well as live music. Make sure to bring the kids, because you can get their picture with Santa Claus, too.

On Saturday the Mag Mile lights fest continues with more fun on Festival Lane. The vendors return, and you’ll get treats from Chicago favorites including Garrett Popcorn, Frango, and Eli’s Cheesecake. There are also more than a dozen holiday-themed activities as well as live music performances.

After you’ve toured the lane, be sure to take a stroll up and down Michigan Avenue. Several stores will be offering discounts and special offers throughout the day and they’ll all be decked out for the holidays. One of the best displays in the city is at The 900 Shops, located at the other end of the Magnificent Mile.

All of this fun is leading up to the big parade. It kicks off at 5:30 pm on Oak Street, and then marches down Michigan Avenue. Grand Marshals Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse and their friends from the Walt Disney World® Resort in Florida will be leading the parade. Be sure to keep an eye out for Chicago mascots Benny the Bull and Hubert the Lion. Then, the day ends with a lively fireworks display over the Chicago River.

The Magnificent Mile Lights Festival is one of the most magical holiday experiences in Chicago and is not to be missed.
