Prost! It’s time for Oktoberfest In Chicago!

Chicago has an enormous German population, so it only makes sense that there’d be lots of Oktoberfest celebrations. From September through much of October, the city is filled with dirndls and lederhosen. If you’re looking for the perfect place to each a giant pretzel and raise a stein, check out these Oktoberfests in Chicago.

The Berghoff Restaurant is Chicago’s most famous German restaurant, and it’s been serving up schnitzel and giant pretzels since before Prohibition. In fact, it’s the proud owner of liquor license number one. Although they no longer host their big celebration in Federal Plaza, you can still celebrate through October 6 with specials during lunch and dinner, live music, and steins of Revolution Brewing’s Oktoberfest Bier.

Dovetail Brewery and Begyle Brewing are on the same street, and instead of being competitive, they celebrate Oktoberfest together with “Oktoberfestiversary” on Saturday, October 6. This block party features tappings from both breweries as well as lots of food trucks, including Paulina Meat Market and The Cookout On Wheels.

For an authentic celebration, head to Rosemont. Considering Hofbrauhaus is from Munich, you can expect a full-on German celebration. There’s nightly entertainment with Bavarian music on-stage and an “Oktoberfestbier” inspired by the original Hofbrauhaus that’s brewed on site and served in liter steins. You can also indulge in delicious daily food specials that’ll have you saying “danke” to your dirndl-wearing waitress.

One of the most anticipated events takes place at St. Alphonsus church in the Lakeview neighborhood. Oktoberfest Chicago is a three-day affair from September 28 through September 30. Meander both inside and outside in the German Beer Hall and the outside biergarten. There’s a kinderfest on Saturday and Sunday, so the kids can play, too.
