Springing Into The Best Spring Events in Downtown Chicago and The Loop

Even though Chicago’s had a mild winter, it’s still exciting when those first buds appear on the trees and the flowers begin to bloom. The city seems to come alive as the weather warms.

Here are some of our favorite Spring events in the Loop and downtown Chicago.

Farmers Markets begin hitting the streets in May. If you’re in the Loop you have two from which to choose. The Federal Plaza location is open every Tuesday from Mary 16 through Halloween, and the Daley Plaza Farmers Market opens on Thursdays from May 11 through October 26. Both are open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

One of the most popular events of the year is C2E2. The Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo celebrates pop culture in McCormick Place April 21 – 23. The convention is known for attracting big celebrities and fans of comics, graphic novels, anime, manga, video games, toys, and movies.

St. Patrick’s Day warmed up Chicago’s parade legs, and this spring there are even more Internationally-themed parades. The Hellenic Heritage Parade takes place on April 30 in Greektown, and the Polish Constitution Day Parade occurs on May 6 in Grant Park.

Beer lovers will appreciate the Chicago Beer Classic, also on May 6. The grass of Soldier Field becomes a giant tasting room, with hundreds of craft beer samples available for attendees. There are seminars as well for those who want to learn more about brewing and tasting craft beer.

The warmer weather also brings art festivals, and one of the first is the Daley Plaza Friday Art Markets. Beginning May 19, this monthly event showcases the works of local and national artists. The location is appropriate and they’ll be set up by Picasso’s famous sculpture. The artists are top tier, since this event is hosted by the same company that produces the Gold Coast Art Fair and the Millennium Art Festival.

Downtown Chicago is an incredible place to visit in the Spring. For more events in the Loop during this special time of year, follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
